Whetstone/Del Bonita (H28/CEQ4)

Location: 48°59.92’ N 112°46.57’
Elevation: 4,336’
Runways: 07/25 (due East/West)

Located south and west of Leftbridge (CYQL) and south and east of Cardston (CEA6).

2 lot field in FSE, and is identified by the American code (H28).

I bought this is January 2026 for v$120,000. I first became interested in this FBO to support a hub at Cardston. For now (January 2026), there is no FBO at Cardston and I have it linked up to my Airdrie (CEF4) hub. It’s ~140 nm between the two, so I’m testing the theory of pointing two 2-lot FBO’s at each other and flying the route with a Cessna 208.

The real field has a fascinating history. Built during World War II, it was deliberately placed along the Canada-US border, one of several such airfields. The US would build planes and land them at the airfield, on the American side, and then the Canadians would tow them into Canada and then fly them on to the front. It was a way for the US to support the Allied war effort, while being able to claim being neutral.

Because the field is located on the border, it has both an American designation (H28) and a Canadian one (CEQ4).
