Cessna 152 Aerobat

In FSE, it carries (up to) 2 passengers, and can be had from ~$50,0001. The monthly cost for an upgraded model is ~$400, which makes it a very light carry.

Fixed landing gear.

In MSFS (2020 and 2024), flying with the JP Logistics model adds a basic autopilot, which makes flying over any distance much more enjoyable. The plane is typically presented with “steam” instruments (rather than a “glass cockpit”), which I like the charm of. The plane is light, and so is sensitive to being tossed around in the wind. There is also a “base model” included with the game. Respectable cruise speed of ~100 kts. In general, very forgiving to fly. Has a limited range, of 387 nm per FSE.

If you want a plane that carries one additional passenger and with twice the range plus an upgrade to a glass cockpit, the Cessna 172 is worth considering.

Regarding the third seat (that doesn’t seem to exist in “real life” models):

The third seat in the 152 and the PA18 was a deliberate decision. Back when FSE was almost entirely “bush planes in Alaska” (at least by the majority of active players who participated in the forums), the “off airport hunting guides” role players (who IRL may or may not skirt the rules and push the envelopes) were given an extra seat to cram it to the rafters.

Which, again, may or may not be done IRL. Just don’t ask us.

  1. compare to the Cennsa 172, which carries 3 passengers but goes for ~$140,000.
